EDITORS' RATINGS OVERALL SCORE:

Overall

RATING

Though better choices exist if your driving is on public roads, the LR2's plush off-road ride makes it suitable if all-terrain duty is a priority.

DETAILED EDITORS' RATINGS

Dynamics

RATING

Outstanding off-road, but is let down by body motions that are more exaggerated than others in its class. Steering is quick off-center, somewhat out of character with this handling demeanor.

Comfort

RATING

Good rear seat comfort and low levels of wind or road noise. Very plush ride.

Function

RATING

Climate control layout is clear and easily manipulated, though we wish we could say the same for the convoluted audio controls. Cargo area spartan but usefully sized.

Design/Build Quality

RATING

Interior layout and materials at par for the class. Build quality seems to be to a reasonably high standard. Ford Escape-esque exterior styling not for everyone.

DETAILED PROFILE:

Comfortable The LR2 trades sportiness for improved ride and off-roadability.

Off-Road Ready Terrain Response makes navigating different terrains a cinch for neophyte off-roaders, although it lakes a low-range transfer case like its bigger brothers.
